JULY UPDATE

After many months of India being shut down due to Covid, there are 60 million people struggling to survive off of 1 meal a day.  An estimated 20 million people have moved from urban areas to villages where there are no jobs and very little food available. The people in villages already lived off of very small wages and with the increase in the number of people it has stretched the village resources and food availability very thin.

Rescuing Lives is committed to providing food and resources to as many people as possible within the range of villages that are mentioned below. Please consider making a donation to help us continue providing vital resources to the people in India.

We would also like to share that all of the team members, widows, and women at risk that has attended the Micro-Enterprise Sewing School in the past, have been healthy. Not a single person has reported having Covid. We are very thankful.

As you know, the Coronavirus Pandemic has affected the entire world. It has impacted the poor and the homeless of India to an even greater degree; especially, for people who were already living off of meager wages Rescuing Livesof $1 to $3 per day or depending on migrant work for income. India ordered a 52-day lockdown at the beginning that has been extended thru the end of August, no one is allowed to leave their homes, except for:

  • Approved government jobsRescuing Lives

THE REST OF THE POPULATION IS REQUIRED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO REMAIN ISOLATED.

Approximately 14 crore = (140,000,000 million) people, according to the CMIE.

Rescuing Lives

This total does not include the additional millions of people that are self-employed throughout India, as well as widows, homeless, and children that depended on the now unemployed migrant workers.

  • Many of the unemployed were already single income family units, now they are completely without an income.
  • Many families have fled the cities on foot, to try and walk back to their villages to wait out the pandemic in less populated areas. This has also put a strain on village resources that were already in short supply.
  • Widows all over India are not working.
  • Poor people that depend on daily wages from odd jobs are no longer allowed to work.
  • Without work, people are unable to purchase basic food items or masks and are more vulnerable to illnesses and Coronavirus
